Fiji has lost another one of its great businessmen- Ravindra Bhai Patel.
The founder and managing director of South Pacific Recording (SPR) played an instrumental role in the development of Nadi. People of his generation still remember how Nadi was decades ago.
Investment by people like Mr Patel resulted in Nadi to be the town it is today.
I met Mr Patel last month, for an article on iTaukei Land Trust Board related matters. The 74-year-old, Mr Patel was a sharp man who knew his stuff and would give us all valuable lessons.
I still remember sitting in his office, listening to him talk about when he had returned from London upon completing his education and the ideas his generation had about the way they envisioned Nadi to be.
He had a vision for the tourist town. Mr Patel was one of the few who put his money where his mouth and heart was. Despite the many natural disasters, Mr Patel’s belief in Nadi never wavered.
He was not one to mince his words. When he knew he was on the side of truth, he was not scared to speak out.
Despite SPR being hit hard by piracy, Mr Patel knew how to see the best in a situation.
His contribution to this nation will forever be remembered. His vision for Nadi will always be cherished and his love for this country is an inspiration to many.
