Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) chief executive, Neil Cook, was in the North last Friday to check on the progress of roadworks in the Northern Division.
Replying to concerns on the maintenance of the roadside drains, Mr Cook said it was the FRA’s responsibility to maintain these drains.
He said this was raised after several cleanups were done in some areas in Labasa when dengue fever broke out recently.
A concerned resident, Khamendra Naidu said that he had organised a team to help in maintaining drains in their community.
“The team has been maintaining the road-side drains because of the dengue fever outbreak in the country.”
Meanwhile, the FRA will spend about $1 million to $1.5 million for the maintenance of the drains around the country excluding those that are part of major projects.
Mr Cook has assured people in Labasa that the FRA was trying its best to meet every demand.
