Ro Teimumu Kepa has apologised to the women of Vutia, Rewa, for not staying back to watch them perform a meke for her last Wednesday.
The paramount chief of Rewa and Burebasaga, the Marama Bale na Roko Tui Dreketi, and leader of the Social Democratic Liberal Party, was in Vutia for the Rewa Provincial Council meeting.
She said it was unfortunate that it happened “as I was inside the meeting house having other discussions and was not aware the women were performing at the time until we got outside.”
She added “no one had told me and there was nothing on the programme about a meke at that time.”
“However, I do apologise to the women for not staying on to watch them as they did perform beautifully as was told to me by council members billeted in the village.”
The women were upset and felt they had been snubbed by her.
One of them said Ro Teimumu saw them lining up but she walked past them and did not stop to say she was leaving for an important engagement.
She said the chief was not enhancing her political support.
“If we were to make a choice today at the ballot box, it will all go to Bainimarama,” she said.
