In celebrating Earth Hour this year, the World Wildlife Fund South Pacific will raise funds to help communities in Fiji have sources of renewable energy.
This will also be in line with a candle-light dinner will be held at the Novotel Entertainment Centre in Lami by the Earth Hour Ambassador, President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau.
This was confirmed by WWF South Pacific communications manager Patricia Mallam.
“The dinner is also a mechanism for raising funds to help communities in Fiji use renewable energy sources for the protection of the environment by introducing them to solar power and help them adapt to the negative impacts of climate change,” Ms Mallam said.
Earth Hour will be celebrated on Friday from 8.30pm to 9.30pm with the theme ‘Your Power. Amplified, Multiplied and Globalised’.
The celebration, Ms Mallam said would also see the launching of a new mass in the development of WWF’s mass engagement initiative.
