Xavier College once again defended their Ba Zone athletics title in the boys’ and girls’ division yesterday.
Xavier amassed 44 gold, 21 silver and 20 bronze medals during the two- day meet.
The boy’s collected an impressive haul of 24 gold, 11 silver and 9 bronze medals while the girls won a remarkable 20 gold, 10 silver and 11 bronze to be crowned champs once again.
Ba Methodist came second for the boys while Kamil College won third place. AD Patel was second in the girls, DAV College was third.
Exceptional athletes in the boys division included Ba Methodist High School’s Graham Naisau (senior) claiming three gold medals.
The Nailaga, Ba native won gold in the blue ribbon event (100m), 4 x 100m relay and his last gold came in the long jump event with a leap of 6.20 metres.
Ba Zone president Feroz Ali said a total of 31 records tumbled, 17 in the tracks and 16 in the field.
“The Ba Zone have improved tremendously as 31 records fell itself but there is more room for improvement before the coke games,” Ali said.
“Xavier College seems to be very strong as usual but other school like AD Patel sharing the gold as well. The weather was on our side which was a blessing in disguise as athletes excelled.
Ali said Ba will be sending a strong team for the nationals as they would unite for the Ba zone team.
