The refurbishment of the Labasa tennis court will attract more people to try out the sport after the Bank South Pacific (BSP) gave $15,000 for that to the Labasa Town Council.
The bank’s Labasa branch manager, Eka Seduadua, said she hoped the refurbished tennis court would help polish the players’ skills and lift their game to another level.
“The Labasa tennis court is one of BSP initiatives in trying to give back something worthwhile to the community.”
She said sports brought people together no matter what differences we have.
Meanwhile, the Labasa/Savusavu special administrator, Vijay Chand, said it was a boost to sports in Labasa. Avid tennis player, Dr Shivan Kumar, said tennis was a minor sport in Labasa and soccer was the dominant one.
Dr Kumar said the Labasa Tennis Association had 15 players at the moment and was looking forward to see the sport grow in Labasa.
“There are plans in place to introduce the sport to schools in Labasa.”
The Acting Commissioner – Northern, Alipate Bolalevu, said it was a healthy sign of sports development in the north.
