Two Fiji Warriors -cum- Naitasiri reps leave for Australia next week after securing rugby contracts.
Mataiasi Ucutabua and Apisalome Vanakena were spotted during the Telecom Fiji Warriors participation in the recent Pacific Rugby Cup tournament in Australia.
The deal was confirmed yesterday by Tacirua Transport Natiasiri coach, Eroni Vereivalu, who is also the Warrriors’ assistant coach.
“This is part of the Naitasiri Rugby plan,” Vereivalu said at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori yesterday during the Naitasiri Highlanders 10s tournament.
“We had been talking for some time and the clubs recruiting them in Australia had a good look at them during the PRC. We encourage our players to go overseas for a few months or for long term contracts. Our investment is in the players and their future. What they earn abroad is good for their lives and families.
“We plan to send more Naitasiri players overseas because they will return and help lift the standard of rugby in our province and Fiji. This is for the vanua and for the country because rugby is a multi-million dollar industry.
“We also want more Naitasiri players in the Vodafone Flying Fijians in the Rugby World Cup in England next year,” Vereivalu said.
Meanwhile, Naitasiri beat Northland 17 – 5 in their friendly match yesterday.
