Nandini Prakash said dancing allowed her to express her love of music and dance all at the same time.
The 15- year-old from Narere was auditioning at the Dance Fiji Dance academy in Valelevu, Nasinu yesterday.
“Dancing allows me to be completely free and allows in the moment and present with myself. I can express through dance what I cannot express in words.”
She said she started dancing when she was eight and was happy to audition.
“I would like to encourage other young people to take part in these auditions and follow their passion.”
The show’s events manager, Menika Prakash said they were happy to see people coming out in numbers to audition.
“Many people are ranging from a love of the art to trying something new and they also find that learning to move their bodies helps develop a more positive self-image,” Ms Prakash said
She said it was not surprising, as learning to feel comfortable in one’s own body and dancing experiences a change, not only physically, but in mind and spirit too.
DFD director, Ravi Malhotra said they wanted to give a new dimension to dancing in Fiji.
