A 36-year-old villager of Vuinadi Village, Cakaudrove, was a happy man last week when he received building materials for a new home.
Fuli Malenivosa was amongst those who received relief aid from the Government through its rehabilitation projects in the north for those affected by Tropical Cyclone Evan in 2012.
Mr Malenivosa received $13,200 of building materials to build a new home for his family.
He said he was grateful for the government’s assistance as his family can move on with their lives once his home was completed.
He’s been farming dalo and yaqona and has a five-year plan in place to move his family up to another standard of living.
The divisional planning officer – Northern, Uraia Rainima said those receiving the help were badly affected by Tropical Cyclone Evan in 2012.
“Seventy families are likely to receive their building materials in the Northern Division.”
He added that $1.2million was allocated, including operation and administration work, for the rehabilitation project.
He said building materials for each house was $13,200 with labour costs of $2000.
“Local carpenters will be recruited from respective villages to assist in the work.”
