The Vodafone Flying Fijians has now cemented a spot in the 2015 Rugby World Cup after beating the Cook Islands 108-6 in the RWC 2015 qualifier match at Lautoka’s Churchill Park yesterday.
While we congratulate the Flying Fijians, they should now put aside the result and focus on the Rugby World Cup in England next year.
Fiji’s first RWC match will be against the host nation, England on September 18.
The second match will be against Wales on the October 1 at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium.
Fiji is in Pool A with Australia, England, Wales, and the fifth and final place will be decided in a repechage, which is heading towards its semi-final stage.
There is a lot of preparation to be done for the Flying Fijians as its pool is very tough.
They have to improve in all aspects of the game.
Something that the Fiji Rugby Union should be looking at is the selection criteria.
Selectors really need to look at recruiting some big and robust forwards.
Another critical area that has to be looked at is the training programme and for this we must have a professional trainer.
At the RWC level the Flying Fijians must lift their match fitness.
The team must have a professional management group to prepare for the 2015 RWC.
