The Fiji Bowling Association team is ready to perform at the 20th Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland from July 23 to August 3.
The association had a fundraising dinner at The Pearl Resort last Friday where $15,000 was collected to assist the team.
Prime Minister Rear Admiral (retired) Voreqe Bainimarama was the chief guest.
Attending her fourth Commonwealth Games, Litia Tikoisuva says preparation is going really good.
“I’ve been to three Commonwealth Games and we have a good if not the best team,” Tikoisuva said.
“The other good thing is while we took part in one discipline in previous Games, we get to play in two disciplines in Glasgow.
“One of the main downfalls we faced from the past trips was the weather. We will be in Glasgow early to acclimatise before the Games begin.”
Bainimarama said the mission was important.
“We need to make extra effort to rally behind them by digging deep and giving them all the support we can,” he said.
Bainimarama thanked the sponsors for supporting the team.
“In the case of lawn bowling it is harder to attract big corporate sponsors than sports like rugby, football or netball,” he said.
“I would like to thank you for continued support.”
Fiji last played in the Commonwealth Games back in 2006 where they reached the quarterfinals.
