The National Federation Party is confident that they have the support needed to form the next government- especially in the Western Division.
Party president Tupou Draunidalo has been visiting villages in the Western Division, and says they have been well received.
Speaking at the announcement of Ba candidates yesterday, Ms Draunidalo said villages appreciated that the NFP was a party which looked forward and was not condescending.
“The momentum is building for the Party. At the beginning, I did mention to the party leader that the West is ours for the taking, I particularly meant the indigenous votes, which I think will swing our way, if we get the pitch right.”
This declaration by Ms Draunidalo comes despite widespread support shown in the Western Division for the FijiFirst party and Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.
At the same announcement, party leader Dr Biman Prasad said the NFP needed to be judged on its track record.
He said only two trade unionists – Attar Singh and Pramod Rae – were constant in their support for worker’s rights, while others (referring to People’s Democratic Party leader Felix Anthony) sat on the Fiji National Provident Fund board, an appointment made post-2006.
In reference to Fiji Labour Party leader Mahendra Chaudhry, Dr Prasad said the Labour Party when in government had their opportunity to make a difference, which, he said, was not done. He said NFP’s consistency in their values and integrity will see them through.
