Three more candidate nominees for the National Federation Party have been announced.
While making the announcement in Ba yesterday, Party leader Dr Biman Prasad said he was confident of the capabilities of the three.
The announcement of Pramod Rae as a candidate did not come as a surprise.
Mr Rae joined two others- Khalid Ali and Davendra Naidu both of Ba in NFP’s line-up for September 17.
Mr Ali has been a long serving member of the party and a Ba cane farmer.
He is also a former deputy mayor of the Ba Town. Currently, he is the deputy chairman of Ba District Advisory Council and a member of the Rarawai/Penang Mills Cane Producers Association.
Mr Ali has served as an assistant secretary of the Fiji Muslim League and was also the League’s Ba Branch secretary. His father, the late Ahmed Ali, was the general secretary of the National Federation Party in the early 1990’s.
Mr Naidu is a successful businessman of Ba.
He has a Diploma in Business Management. Mr Naidu contested the Magodro Open Constituency in the 2006 general elections. He was the treasurer of the NFP Youth Movement from 1994 to 2002.
Mr Naidu also served as chairman of Ba District Advisory Council continuously for 10 years from 2002 to 2012. He is also the Board Member of TISI Sangam Ba Branch and has been the NFP Branch President since 2006.
While announcing Mr Rae’s candidacy, Dr Prasad said at one stage, Mr Rae could have very well led the National Federation Party.
Mr Rae has been around the political scene in Fiji for a while now. He served under the leadership of the late Siddiq Koya, the former NFP and Opposition Leader in the 1980s. He was the NFP Youth Leader in the 1970s.
Mr Rae was a Suva City Councillor from 1979 to 1985. He is a former general secretary of the Fiji Teachers Union and the National Union of Municipal Workers. Mr Rae served as the general secretary of the Fiji Bank and Finance Sector Union for 10 years before resigning to contest the elections.
Mr Rae was also NFP’s longest serving general secretary for 11 years from 2002 to 2013. The party will announce three more candidate nominees in Lautoka today at the Sangam Village in Lovu.
Another announcement will be made on Monday in Suva.
