Two former Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority officers appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday charged with abuse of office.
Vimal Krishna who was manager taxation, on July 29, 2009 without documenting support, allegedly directed Agesh Prakash to allow a loss of $808,436.09 which resulted in the payout of $31, 593.41 to Mahendra Pal Chaudhry.
Such direction was an alleged abuse of authority, thus prejudicing the rights of the Government of Fiji.
Agesh Prakash who was head of the amendments and correspondence unit, on July 29, 2009 allegedly made unauthorised amendments to the tax return of Mahendra Pal Chaudhry allowing a loss which resulted in a pay out in the amount of $31,593.41.
Such direction was an alleged abuse of authority, thus prejudicing the rights of the Government of Fiji.
The pair appeared before Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne.
The following bail conditions were imposed by the Magistrate:
n The accused persons were released on bail of $300 each
n To surrender all travel documents
n Not to interfere with prosecution witnesses
Defence Lawyer Devanesh Sharma said his clients agreed to the bail conditions. No plea was taken. Magistrate Somaratne adjourned the case to July 30 for full disclosures.
