Savenaca Vocea, 20, sang praises for his late dad, Peceli Vuniwaqa Vocea, during his memorial service at the Centenary Church in Suva yesterday.
The late Mr Vocea (Senior) died in Brussels a fortnight aACgo while serving as Fiji’s AAAmbassador to the European Union and the Kingdom of Belgium.
Mr Vocea was serving his second term in office as Fiji’s representative to the EU and Belgium, an appointment he has held since 2009 when he died.
Savenaca while delivering his eulogy, said his father was their best friend and the best provider a family could ask for.
He said his father had time for all of them.
“Although he was a very busy man, he always had time for each one of us and helped us in any way by giving his best,” Mr Savenaca said.
“He did all things a father should do. He strengthened us physically, mentally and spiritually.”
The late Mr Vocea was also described as a family man by his elder sister.Vasiti Uluiviti said her brother was a humble and a caring man.
“He was someone with great compassion and always tried to help anyone in need,” Mrs Uluiviti said.
“In his early years at Queen Victoria School, he would collect a lot of soap from school and brought them home during the school holidays to boil them in water so that they become lumps of soap and use them as washing soap.
“Even though he became successful in his life and career, he is still remembered for his humble beginning.”
The late Mr Vocea, 46, was buried at the Suva Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife and former Fijian international netballer, Vasiti and their five children.
