In a bid to uplift the knowledge of science students in Nadi, the Nadi Science Teachers Association organised a one-day science competition at Maharishi Sanatan College, Nadi, yesterday.
The competition was themed ‘Interdependence of Living Things’ with the aim to test the knowledge of students and the importance of plants and animals in our daily lives.Seven secondary schools took part with posters and models, in line with the theme, put on display.
Year 10 student Kajol Kirti Sharma of Korovuto College won first prize with her model on carbon cycle. The model depicted the various effects of factories dispersing waste into the sea and how animals are dependent on the farmers and vice versa.
Korovuto College science teacher Zoneed Shah said the students and teachers decided to construct a carbon cycle model because it affected our daily lives.
Sangam Sadhu Kuppuswamy Memorial College and Nadi College won second and third prizes respectively.
Association president Nilesh Sharma thanked the students and the schools in making the competition a success.
“We are happy to see that students understood the theme ‘Interdependence of Living Things’ and did their level best,’’ Mr Sharma said.
He said the objective was to unite the science teachers of Nadi and uplift the knowledge of Nadi science students..
