The Team Fiji athletics team arrived in Dumfries and sprinter Banuve Tabakaucoro is enjoying the atmosphere in South West of Scotland.
The athletics team will be using Dumfries as their base for their pre-games training.
Speaking to ITV, Banuve Tabakaucoro says Dumfries is like Fiji and the Fijians are enjoying the atmosphere.
“People are very friendly over here and the way they welcome us was really great,”Tabakaucoro said.
“Dumfries is very much like Fiji.”
Section manager for athletics Paul Yee said they feel honored to train at Dumfries before the opening next Wednesday.
“We feel honoured to be accepting this invitation to train and prepare for the games,” Yee said.
The athletes were welcomed to the town at a reception on Wednesday night. Locals turned out in force to give them a warm welcome.
According to ITV local children had a chance to meet and train with the athletes and even got the chance to hold a press conference with the team.
Younis Bese and Tabakaucoro will compete in the 100m heats on July 27 and semifinals on July 28.
Eugene Vollmer and Leslie Copeland will compete on August 1.
Naulu trains with Vanuatu reps
Fiji’s lone judo participant Josateki Naulu is progressing well with his preparation in Glasgow.
Naulu who will be competing in the 81kg category trained with the four Vanuatu judokas as they gear up for the game.
Coach Nacanieli Takayawa earlier stated that Naulu has been preparing well for the games.
“He is doing well and should produce good results in Glasgow,” Takayawa said.
Naulu will compete next Friday.
