Radrodro Tabualevu is the new Fiji Rugby Union chief executive officer.
In a statement released by the FRU yesterday Tabualevu will take over from the acting CEO, Dr Berlin Kafoa, on August 1.
FRU chairman Filimoni Waqabaca in approving the selection committee’s recommendation said the union wanted someone with proven commercial success at CEO level but with an innovative business outlook and a passion for rugby.
The Somosomo, Taveuni man is excited about his new role and will ensure rugby in Fiji will move forward.
“I feel privileged and excited to take up this role for the FRU and enter the world of local and international rugby,” Tabualevu said.
“I intend to work towards a winning culture in rugby and beyond.
“FRU will work with its’ current sponsors to actively seek out exciting investment opportunities that will bolster our game.
“However, I am mindful that the success of our financial model relies on a passionate and participative supporter base,” Tabualevu said.
He also said that FRU would need to work together with stakeholders for the development of the sport in the country.
He is excited about the initiative because it showcases Fijis’ ingenuity and resourcefulness.
“Developing a winning product with integrity is critical therefore I will work with all the game’s stakeholders to ensure rugby in Fiji moves forward as a unifying and uplifting influence for our people,” Tabualevu said.
Tabualevu is the son of former national player and renowned coach the late Inoke Tabualevu. He played fullback and was a prolific points-scorer.
The latter is famous for coaching the Fiji team that beat the British Lions at Buckhurst Park back in 1977.
Tabualevu has worked in a diverse range of industries including agriculture, retail, motor vehicle and heavy machinery, shipping, finance, telecommunication and the building industry in Fiji and recently the Pacific.
Post-university, he started a 12-year career with Carpenters Fiji Limited as a management cadet that exposed him to varied business sectors of the Carpenters group including Morris Hedstrom.
He joined Telecom Fiji Limited in 2000 where he, among other things, initiated the planning, design and implementation processes of the iconic drua phone booths.
Tabualevu left Telecom Fiji in 2003 to establish and lead TransTel Limited (a subsidiary of Telecom Fiji) as its chief executive officer until he resigned in 2013 before joining Pacific Emerging Technologies Limited which serves nine Pacific Islands from Fiji, as its’ executive director.
Significant among his achievements in TransTel was the pioneering design towards the development of the bus e-ticketing system.
