The bus checker who allegedly caused the deaths of a mother and a three-year-old girl at the Suva Bus Station on May 6 pleaded not guilty in the High court in Suva yesterday to two counts of manslaughter. The matter was called before Justice Paul Madigan and the accused, Rabindar Singh, was present with his legal representative from the Legal Aid.
The State made an application, on confirmation from the accuser’s lawyer, that the accused person’s name was misspelt as Rabindra instead of Rabindar.
Justice Madigan noted the same and allowed the application and amended the information, accordingly.
The information was read out to the accused in Hindi; he understood the same and pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The State then informed the court that there were admissions in the caution interview and the charge statement.
The defence lawyer told the court that they would file a voir dire application by the next call date. The matter has been adjourned to September 25. The accused was bailed on June 3.
