The team from International Monetary Fund gathering information on Fiji’s economic development and policies, is expected to conclude its mission by tomorrow.
The team is here to hold bilateral discussions which is done usually every year.
This is done in order to help countries prevent local economic problems from turning into global one and in turn helping out the global economy.
Reserve Bank of Fiji Governor, Barry Whiteside, said the Mission Chief is Chikahisa Sumi from the Asia and Pacific Department and he is accompanied by Mr Dan Nyberg and Ms Sonali Das.
The Advisor to the Executive Director at the IMF, Caroline Waqabaca, is also with the IMF Team for the duration of the Mission.
While in Fiji, the team will meet the Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, Mr Whiteside, chief executives of Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority and Fiji National Provident Fund and private sector representatives.
They are also expected to meet various relevant permanent secretaries and some Government officials.

Purpose of visit
Mr Whiteside said the IMF staff team visits the country, collects economic and financial information, and discusses with officials the country’s economic developments and policies.
“On return to headquarters, the staff prepares a report, which forms the basis for discussion by the Executive Board,” he said.
“At the conclusion of the discussion, the managing director, as chairman of the Board, summarises the views of executive directors, and this summary is transmitted to the country’s authorities.
“With the permission of the authorities, the Publication Information Notice (PIN) and the Staff Report is published and posted on the IMF’s website.”
