Fijian flyer Sefanaia Naivalu is the only Fijian born rugby player to be selected in the 33-member squad of the Melbourne Rising rugby team which will compete in the 2014 Buildcorp National Rugby Championships in Australia next month..
Sefa, as he commonly known, moved to Melbourne to join the Box Hill Rugby Club after playing for Ovalau Rugby Club in his homeland. He went through the Island Breeze Rugby plus programme in the last couple years and has proven himself with his skills, speed and powerful tackles as a rugby player.
The 22-year-old has a strong rugby 7s background and is currently a leading try-scorer in the 2014 Dewar shield.
Island Breeze Rugby plus programme director Waqa Baravilala said this is a milestone for them.
“Naivalu is the only Fijian – born rugby player fortunate to be picked for the new NRC comp in Australia starting in August for 11 weeks,
“IB Rugby Plus sees this opportunity as a milestone of development from grassroots to elite level competition,” Baravilala said.
