Five of the country’s leading public servants have resigned and are expected to become FijiFirst candidates in the General Elections
They include three district commissioners who have played key roles implementing Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama’s rural development vision.
Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office Pio Tikoduadua was farewelled yesterday at the Parliament Complex.
Mr Tikoduadua did not reveal his political party of choice for the General Elections.
But it has been widely reported as being FijiFirst – as expected.
Commissioner Eastern Netani Rika was farewelled from his office in Suva last week to contest under the FijiFirst ticket.
“I was approached by the president of FijiFirst, Dr Jiko Luveni to stand for the party in the upcoming elections,” he said.
Commissioner Western, Joeli Cawaki was also farewelled from his office in Lautoka. “I have applied to contest the election as a FijiFirst candidate,” Mr Cawaki said.
Commissioner Central Laisenia Tuitubou confirmed his resignation and was farewelled yesterday.
Mr Tuitubou said he was confident about his chances in the elections. “This new platform will give me a better chance to do what I intend to do for the people particularly those in the rural areas.”
Permanent Secretary for Education, Dr Brij Lal was the latest top civil servant to resign from public service to pursue candidacy in the 2014 General Elections.
Dr Lal was coy about details when approached for details yesterday but staff members confirmed his intentions and that a farewell party was planned for him.
