Team Fiji had a surprise visit from members of the Royal household at their camp at the Commonwealth Games in Scotland yesterday. They were visited by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton, and Prince Harry.
In a rare chance of getting personal with members of the royal family, Fijian athletes Leslie Copeland and Eugene Vollmer had a chance to meet Prince Harry.
The Reporters Academy said Copeland and Vollmer were enjoying a video game when Prince Harry walked into the camp.
“Copeland and Vollmer not only met Prince Harry, but also had a game of FIFA with him,” the Reporters Academy reported.
“This was during a Royal Visit to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games Village, where Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry visited various sites in the Athletes’ Village. Leslie and Eugene were relaxing in the Athletes’ Lounge, when the Royal party visited. Prince Harry headed straight over to the TV screens and joined the two boys for a quick game.”
The visit boosted Team Fiji amid celebration for our first medal win at the Games.
Weightlifter Apolonia Vaivai created history yesterday in Day 7 of the Games by winning Fiji’s first medal.
