Suva Rugby Union supports Nadroga Rugby on the demand the major union has made to the Fiji Rugby Union.
The Nadroga Rugby Union on Monday threatened to boycott its Skipper Cup semi-final match and the upcoming Farebrother matches if FRU didn’t adhere to its promises
SRU Chairman John O’Connor said they fully supported the issues brought up by Nadroga Rugby Union president Jikoibau Matawalu.
“There were a lot of questions being raised on these issues and we support Nadroga calling on FRU to resolve those issues as quickly as possible by the deadline that Nadroga has given and we hope that FRU will act and all the matters are resolved,
“We hope that FRU will act on this and meet all those criteria’s by August 1,” O’Connor said.
Suva rugby is also calling on Nadi and Naitasiri to support the move for the betterment of the sport in the country.
SRU said that FRU failed to deliver what was promised to the union, which included man-of-the-match payments and groceries rations that was supposed to be given to the teams.
It is also understood sponsorship requirements have been met by the sponsors.
Meanwhile the FRU has stated in a statement that they will respond today.
“Please be advised that the Fiji Rugby Union will send an official response to the Nadroga and Suva Rugby Union’s concerns, tomorrow (today). Any inconvenience caused is highly regretted,” FRU stated.
However, there are concerns that the Skipper Cup semifinals scheduled for this weekend may not go ahead if the unions and parent body do not come to an agreement.

Issues:
n Man of the match payments from round one – 11 to be paid by close of business Friday, August 01. (Nadroga Rugby Union said it has not been paid since round one matches)
n Groceries rations to be supplied by close of business Friday, August 1. (Nadroga Rugby Union says the monthly ration was only received once)
n Top points winner’s prize to be paid out by Friday, August 1.
n Farebrother-Sullivan Trophy Rules and Regulations to be circulated by close of business Friday, August 1 and to be endorsed by the top eight unions before implemented; (Nadroga Rugby wants to know how funds will be disseminated)
n Immediate meeting to include all unions to take place as soon as possible to discuss all outstanding matters. (Nadroga said Saturday August 2 is the best date since no Skipper Cup matches will be played that day).
n It is understood Nadroga has previously been warned to raise issues with Fiji Rugby Union direct, and not through the news media.
