National rep Sam Lee will be rubbing shoulders against some of the world’s best golfers during the inaugural Fiji International on August 14-17.
Lee maintained his Day One lead on Friday to shoot a two over par 74 leaving him six shots clear of nearest rival Vikrant Chandra (professional) during the Fiji International local qualifier at Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course yesterday.
The 24-year-old is ecstatic about playing with the best on the world stage at home.
“I have been practicing every day and it’s great to get the reward at the end of the day,” Lee said.
He will playing against world’s former Number One Vijay Singh, three-time Major Champion Nick Price, India’s Number One ranked player Anirban Lahiri, Australia’s experienced Matthew Griffin, Brendan Jones, and the Australia’s rising stars including Dimitrios Papadatos, Jake Higginbottom and Jack Wilson.
“I’m looking forward to the opportunity to compete against the best,” he said.
“We can only watch them on television but to actually play with them is a dream come true.”
Lee admitted that the windy conditions proved tough for most of the golfers in the final 18-holes.
A graduate of Oklahoma State University, Lee was born in Korea, and moved to Fiji in 2001 and is a member at Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course.
PGA Tour Australasia tournament co-coordinator Brad Newcombe said 15 players (professional and amateurs) competed in the 36-hole competition.
