The Marina Deli located at Port Denarau has enjoyed significant success since its opening in June.
It is also progressing well in line with its commitment to supporting the Loloma House Woman’s Refuge.
The managing director Dave Jamison was pleased to be able to present a cheque for $605 to the trustees of Loloma House.
Mr Jamison said the money was raised in a unique way.
“Every customer who spent over $100 at a time is given a $5 voucher that they can use on their next visit to the deli as a discount or they can pass it over to Loloma house,” he said.
“A number of our customers including residents, tourists and private yachts have chosen the charity way rather than a discount.”
Marina Deli co-founder, Bob Penn, described this as a great way to support a charity that was so in need, without having to do anything.
“With ongoing support from some of our customers, this will provide the house with an ongoing revenue stream,” he said.
Loloma House currently supports 12 woman and 22 children who rely completely on the house to provide a safe and secure environment. All their funding is based on donations.
Captain Jim Edwards, a trustee of Loloma House, said: “This sort of positive and unselfish action by businesses is a demonstration of what can be achieved with a little initiative, from forward thinking companies.”
The Marina Deli is shortly opening an “online” Deli to support such markets as Suva and people will also be able to join this initiative through that medium.
The Deli customers have been enjoying a wide range of Italian style meats, international cheeses, locally-made produce and a wide selection of international gourmet products.
