Pepsi won the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama Cup during the inaugural Fiji Open Championship at the Namosau Horse Racing Course in Ba on Sunday.
The eight-year-old Ba horse ridden by jockey Mohammed Riazul crossing the finishing line ahead of Road Marshall (Asmat Ali) and Baby Boy with a time of 2 minutes 45 seconds
Chief guest/acting Commissioner Western Luke Moroivalu commended the event.
“This is the biggest race ever organised in Ba and full marks to the committee and the Ba Town Council,” Moroivalu said.
Race secretary Sunil Kant Sharma said nine trophies and cash prizes were handed over to the winners.
“This year we have done it in a big way in collaboration with the Ba Town Council’s 75th anniversary celebrations,” Sharma said.
“It was a good to see 45 horses from Sigatoka to Rakiraki competing and it also draw a huge crowd as well. We thank the supporters for coming in big numbers.”
Other horses that made their mark include Sher Punjab from Nailaga, Dyna Kill of Nadi, Kolinio, Lionheart and Bharat.
