The Ministry of Social Welfare, Women and Poverty Alleviation is organising a three-day seminar for women and children to discuss ways they can be protected from abuse, violence and exploitation.
The seminar which starts tomorrow will see about 182 advocates speaking to women who are leaders in their communities, and children from around the country at the Studio 6 Apartments in Suva.
“They will come together and undergo training. I want them to feel that they are important key players in this country,” Minister for Social Welfare, Women and Poverty Alleviation Dr Jiko Luveni said.
“This will provide opportunities for the gatekeepers and community facilitators to get as much information on the existing legislations and its application on gender-based violence and child abuse cases.
“It will assist them to enhance their role in creating a safer community for all and to develop a work plan for championing the elimination of violence, abuse and exploitation of women and children. It will also enable the advocates to establish a wider community network of gatekeepers and community facilitators in Fiji.
The theme for the seminar is ‘Towards a future free from Violence, Abuse and Exploitation of Women and Children.”
