We all dream, but sometimes when we don’t have money, we need to adjust to what we have and be content, says Melaia Nabukavou.
The 65-year-old said this during the inaugural National Women’s Expo at the Vodafone Arena in Suva yesterday.
She is the president of Naduru Women’s Club, Kuku, in Tailevu.
“We have about 17 members and this expo has been a wonderful experience to all the women present here,” Ms Nabukavou said.
She said each of them had learned something new from other women’s groups.
“I make home decorations, weave mat, which is a traditional craft in Fiji and also sew clothes.”
Ms Nabukavou said putting food on the table was not a constant worry anymore.
“I know I have the ability to work, earn money and I like working hard and being content with whatever I have.”
She said she liked being self-sufficient and the money she earned helped her to pay for other necessities in her home.
“There are bad weeks and good weeks, but I just keep going.”
Ms Nabukavou said empowering women was very important and they needed to be encouraged to have the ability to think positively to bring about changes.
