The Sports World, Courts Fiji Limited and Fiji Water Charity Fun Run will take place in Suva today for the 2014 Vodafone Hibiscus Festival.
Festival public relations officer Lice Movono-Rova said they expected more than 1000 participants.
“Since most Fijians are affected by non-communicable diseases (NCDs), running is the best exercise that will help fight this disease,” Mrs Movono-Rova said.
She said a team specialising on NCDs would be present during the event offering like dental and oral health tips.
Sports World general manager Vinod Kumar said they would have a number of sports activities together during the run.
“We request people to come and compete in this event, and we encourage parents to bring their children,” Mr Kumar said.
There will be prizes for winners in the event. Courts Fiji Limited director of marketing Anil Senewiratne said they would have some of Fiji’s top runners participating in the event.
“We are inviting the public to take part and be part of the national campaign to eradicate NCDs through physical activity,” Mr Senewiratne said.
Meanwhile, the registration fee for adults is $1 and children are free.
The Festival will be held from August 15 – 23 at Albert Park, Suva.
