In the last day of the Marama ni Yavusa Summit at Nasese, Suva the participants were reminded of the five tools of empowerment.
Their keynote speaker, internationally renowned Bambi Shen, shared with them her five tools of empowerment.
She said S.H.E.L.F stood for self-image, health, education/training, legal rights and finances.
On self-image, she said that as traditional leaders they should at all times be confident and be committed to what they do. “Practice execellence, respect others and be on time all the time,” Ms Shen said.
She said it was important that they looked after their health properly. “Have a good physical body and for that they should eat and sleep well. Have a wise relaxation, exercise and at all times forgive others.”
Ms Shen reminded them that education and training were tools of leadership. As leaders, she said, they should learn to do something so well that someone was willing to pay them for it. “Be resilient on domestic violence.” The Marama ni Yavusa were also reminded to be knowledgeable about their rights and respect others’ rights.
Her last tool of empowerment, Mrs Shen told the leaders, was to resist from making credits and they must pay the balance. She advised them to make savings and “never spend more than you make.”
Her presentation was met with a standing ovation from the Marama Ni Yavusa who said it suited them. Ms Shen will leave the country after a day cruise in the West.
