Mahendra Pal Chaudhry’s lawyer Anand Singh asked the Court of Appeal to take note of their urgent application in court in Suva yesterday.
This was after the panel of judges told the court they would issue ruling on notice in Chaudhry’s appeal case.
Chaudhry was found guilty on April 4 for breaching the Exchange Control Act (ECA) and was fined $2million on May 2.
The appeal is against his sentencing and conviction.
The judges will rule on notice on seven grounds of appeal before the end of nomination day on August 18.
Justice Suresh Chandra, the resident Justice of Appeal, said they were aware of the urgency.
Mr Singh also moved that the conviction be set aside for his client and that he be acquitted.
Earlier on Thursday, he had outlined to the panel of judges the seven grounds of appeal.
n If Chaudhry’s conviction is overturned he would be able to stand in the elections as Labour leader.
