Thousands of students were at the carnival ground in Churchill Park, Lautoka, yesterday looking at and hearing about possible career opportunities.
USP’s Lautoka campus director, Dr Premila Devi, said she was impressed with the turnout from the different schools.
“Almost a thousand students have gone through our booths here and we are really impressed with the turnout and interest from the students,” she said.
There were displays from the Faculty of Arts, Law and Education, the Faculty of Business and Economics and lastly the Faculty of Science, Technology and Environment.
“We have displays from the different faculties and their various sectors.
“We are also informing the students of our foundation courses especially, to those students who are not able to pass their Year 12 or Year 13 external exams,” she said.
Dr Devi said the open day has been divided into two sections considering the mature audience as well.
“This programme is more focused on the students and then there will be another programme at 5pm to 8pm in the evening for the matured audience, including parents who are working and the general public,” she said.
Swami Vivekananda College student, Arieta Raituku was inspired by the displays from the different faculties.
“There are a lot of things that I have learned from this open day especially with the displays that were based on what I want to be when I grow up,” she said.
