SHEIK DEAN
NADI
A Fiji Electricity Authority (FEA) worker died after falling from an electricity pole.
The incident happened yesterday at around 7am while the man was working on an electricity pole in Nadi Town. A witness who wished to remain unnamed said the FEA employee was working on the electricity pole near the market when his safety harness belt snapped.
“The FEA employee secured himself properly with the safety harness belt before he started working,’’ the eye witness said.
“However after a few minutes the safety harness belt snapped. We ran to the accident site hoping that he might have survived the fall but it was too late for him.
“He died instantly from the fall and his blood splattered around the scene.”
Police spokesperson Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri confirmed the incident.
“I confirm that a man has lost his life after falling from an electricity pole while he was working,’’ Mr Sokomuri said.
He said Police are investigating the matter before further information could be revealed.
Details are sketchy at the moment.
