The Fijian women hockey team to the 2014 Youth Olympic Games aims to pull some surprises in Nanjing, China
The side is in Pool A alongside Argentina, world champions Netherlands, South Africa and Japan, while Pool B has Zambia, Uruguay, New Zealand, China and Germany.

Coach Tai Smith said Fiji had never qualified for the Youth Olympics but is confident of a positive outcome.
“The girls are well prepared to the best they can,” Smith said.

“Now it is just a matter of getting on to the task and the girls are all focused.

“There is no injury and we want to thank everybody who have been involved for their support. I expect more than just a good show. “

The team is captained by Lala Ravatu and assisted by Adi Mateiwai Naselesele.

“We have a very tough pool with Argentina and Netherlands but we would give our best. We need the prayers of the people of Fiji to help us,” they said.

Fiji plays Argentina in their opening pool match next Monday, 4pm at the Youth Olympic Sports Park Hockey Field.
The Team Fiji contingent of 26 athletes left Nadi yesterday. Fiji is taking part in weightlifting, athletics, swimming and rugby sevens.
