The Fiji Tribe (men) and Vonu (women) were beaten in their first round of matches of the Australian Football League International Cup 2014 on Sunday.

Fiji Tribe lost to reigning International Cup champion, Ireland 10 – 62 while the Fiji Vonu succumbed 6 – 67 at the McAlister Oval, Royal Park in Melbourne, Australia.

Fiji head coach Myke Leahy they gained some respect in the tournament despite the losses.

“The men’s team won the respect of every team at IC14 after playing almost the entire match with only 17 players,” Leahy said.

Mesake Koroi scored the lone goal for Fiji Tribe while Dylan Wolfgramm and Jerry Vunitabua performed with great skills at midfield.

The Vonu managed a goal against the experienced Irish team, even though it was their first time playing an International Cup match.

The International Cup resumes today with the Fiji Tribe facing Indonesia while the Fiji Vonu play on Saturday against Canada Northern Lights.
