PM welcome in Lomanikoro: Chief

The Prime Minister is welcome to campaign in Lomanikoro Village, says Social Democratic Liberal Party leader Ro Teimumu Kepa.
The Rewa paramount chief said the vanua o’ Rewa would welcome any party to share their manifesto and vision for Fiji as part of election campaigns. Lomanikoro Village is the traditional ‘seat of power’ for the head of the Burebasaga Confederacy.
Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama heads the FijiFirst party and had conducted several campaign meetings at villages in Rewa.
‘’I hope Voreqe (Bainimarama) goes to Lomanikoro. I want the people to make informed choices when they vote during the election,’’ she said.
During a SODELPA meeting at Burebasaga Village on Tuesday night, she urged the vanua o’ Rewa to welcome all parties to their villages in the lead up to the September 17 polling.
‘’As to the question whether people support me as a chief or politician, I take it any way. I also miss the relaxed life, my big house in the village and my garden, so it’s up to the people,’’ she said.
She insists her support among non-iTaukei members of SODELPA is still strong despite the party’s emphasis on indigenous iTaukei rights.
‘We don’t want to deprive anyone of their rights and I believe that hasn’t been marketed well by our party.’’
On the question of the future of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF), she said a consultation with stakeholders was necessary to determine the institution’s future.
‘This shouldn’t be seen as a threat. The RFMF has a proud history and we all want a trained, efficient, modern-day military force,’’ she said.
