Western Force won the BSP Life Commissioner’s Cup after defeating North Police 48-22 at Nasova grounds yesterday.

The Setefano Somoca-led side secured a 17-all draw with the Northern Division team yesterday and proved themselves too strong having national reps Peni Ravai, Ulaiasi Lawavou and fullback Mitieli Nacagilevu.

The westerners strengthened their momentum in the secondhalf and were strong in defence while the men in red had themselves to blame because of unforced errors which forced them to play with 14 men in the remaining minutes of the second half.

Western captain Somoca said it was a good game and acknowledged the North side.

“It was a very good game we were expecting a tough match from the North team and they have also given us a good game,” Somoca said.

Fiji Police Force Commissioner Bernadus Groenewald applauded the Western side for a great game and also reminded the Northern side of the importance of having 15 men on the field.

“Congratulation to the Western Force for the second consecutive win and also a good contest by the North team but you can’t play with 14 men. It was an unfortunate for that yellow card in the second half,” Groenewald said.

The force will now prepare for the Ravonu Cup challenge.
