Student Scouts of Matuku, Lau, have sacrificed a lot to be part of the Fiji Centennial Jamboree scheduled for next week at Queen Victoria School (QVS) in Matavatucou, Tailevu.

Ratu Mocevakaca Memorial School headteacher, Tupou Maiwalewale said the students were looking forward to the one-week camp.

“The students fundraised in a ‘bring and buy’ and parents collected coconuts for copra so that the students can be part of the camp,” Ms Maiwalewale said.

“We did everything we could so that the students are able to be in Suva and get exposed to new ideas.”

Ms Maiwalewale said the trip would be an eye- opener for the students.

“This is the first trip to Suva for most of the students and it is a big thing for them. We will also be visiting other places because we don’t know when they will be in Suva again,” she said.

“We believe that the students will learn a lot in camp because opportunities like this rarely comes.”

The camp will accommodate up to 2000 scouts, leaders and supporters including some scouts from our Pacific neighbours.
