The Vunisea Secondary School Under-19 team created the first upset in the Fiji Secondary Schools Netball Championship yesterday.

Vunisea played a good defensive game and upset defending champions Ratu Navula College 12-11 at the National Netball Centre.

FSSNC president Lisi Narokolevu was impressed with competition on day one and the first upset has made the competition more exciting. “Vunisea has taken the competition to another level. We have schools like Xavier College, Suva Grammar and the Baravi Zone teams,” Nakorolevu said.

She said they had changed the format this year where the top two teams from each pool would qualify for the Cup quarterfinals. There are 116 teams vying for top spot. Balata High School from Tavua, Lomary Secondary, Ratu Latianara and Namosi Secondary are debutants.

The pool games continue today followed by the final at 3pm. The 2015 FSSNC will be held in Lautoka.
