Fijian Smile Wins Big
Eight-year-old Tevita Kolibasaga of Meliville Primary School in New Zeland was awarded the Hamilton’s Positive Young Star for May, 2014.
Positive Young Star recipients are role models in their school who show values of respect, integrity and resilience.
He is known in his school as David.
His former teacher Liz Stewart said, “Every morning, he greets everyone with a smile.”
She said many people enjoyed Tevita’s company because of the example he set for his peers.
“He is an exceptional student who is a consistent role model.”
Ms Stewart said resilience was something Tevita consistently showed at school.
“When he finds something challening, David will try his best to figure it out before seeking help.”
She said the young Fijian was a focused student who enjoyed his school work, and especially math.
David’s mother, Seruwaia Talei Kolibasoga, a health worker, said her son was a thinker.
“He is a thinker, he likes to pull things apart and put them back together,” she said.
Ms Stewart said David not only focused on his work, but he extended his help to others and keen in sports.
“David is confident and comfortable with himself,” she said.
