Studying with students fresh from high school was a challenge for two naval officers.

Esala Tawake and Iliesa Vuase, who joined Service-Pro International Tourism Hospitality Institute six months ago, graduated with flying colours yesterday.

“Navy is about discipline and this led me to receive the Leadership Award because leadership is a skill that everyone should have,” Mr Tawake said.

“Attending the first class was challenging when I saw that the students were very young and that they were more educated but I did not let that stop me from doing my best.”

Leading seaman Vuase graduated with a Certificate in Baking Patisserie.

“I will not stop here and this is just the beginning; I have learned a lot and hope to broaden my knowledge,” the 31 year old said.

“Receiving the special award for best in baking has boosted my confidence and this shows that age is not a barrier when it comes to education.

They said they were grateful to Service-Pro International Tourism Hospitality Institute which is located at Waimanu Road in Suva.
