All The Best Bro: Faizal

Faizal Koya of the National Federation Party (NFP) wishes his brother, Faiyaz Koya of FijiFirst, well for the September 17 general election.

“My brother is standing for FijiFirst and that is something of his choice and that is his right to do so,” said Mr Koya.

“He is my brother and I wish him well and I believe this it is not me standing against him; it is just a matter of choice,” he said.

“People know me and my back- ground and likewise for him so it’s a matter of choice”

“I actually look forward to it, it has brought a little bit of colour into the four weeks of campaign that is remaining,” he said.

Both the brothers are lawyers and sons of the Siddiq Moidin Koya who was one of the founders of the NFP.

“I am not the person to believe in personal or character assassinations and till September 17, I will fight for issues that I believe in,” he said.

He said initially he was surprised at his brother’s interest but he knew the decision was coming.

“He was in the Hotel Licensing Board and in the Legal Aid Board and he never showed any interest in contesting the elections or in politics,” he said.

“I always wore my colours openly so politics was more directed towards me but now that he has chosen, it is good for him,” he said.

“At the end of the day, it is the people who decide what they want to be satisfied with.” He added it was not about self gain.

“I am standing for what I believe in, my belief is that democracy brings good governance, brings real transparency, good spirit to agree to disagree and I am a strong advocate for animal welfare,” he said.

“If the people see what I stand for and it is their choice to vote for me or not.

“NFP is starting from ground zero and we have nothing to lose and we believe that this time around through our party line-up and manifesto, we are confident that this time it will better than previous elections,” he said.

He has visited rural and urban areas of Rakiraki and urban areas of Tavua, Labasa and is now concentrating on areas around Lautoka and Ba.

He said he would issue a statement today.
