Tacirua Transport Naitasiri has booked their spot in the final against BLK Nadroga after beating Jack’s Nadi 15-9 in the Skipper Cup semifinal at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori yesterday.

What happened

It did not take long for Jack’s Nadi to put points on the scoreboard from a penalty by Venisemani Ratubalavu in the 1st minute. But the equaliser came six minutes later by Naitasiri’s Kolinio Vunaki. Naitasiri’s defence kept Nadi at bay until an intercept by Vunaki in the 12th minute to score their first try to lead 8-3.

Nadi committed a lot of handling errors and could not maintain possession. Naitasiri took advantage of Nadi’s mistakes and scored another try from a scrum in the 16th minute by Aporosa Rasavulu which was converted by Vunaki, 15-3. Ratubalavu missed a penalty in the 26th minute but Kaveni Karo converted another penalty for Nadi in the 33rd minute. Halftime: Naitasiri 15-6 Nadi.

Nadi came back more composed in the second spell and managed to hold off Naitasiri.

In the 57th minute Ratubalavu kicked a penalty. Naitasiri’s Filimone Seru copped a yellow card but Nadi could not capitalise on the opportunity. In the 66th minute, Watisoni Radinikuva of Nadi earned himself a yellow card from a high tackle. Naitasiri defended well till the very end.

Naitasiri’s try scored by Kolinio Vunaki who was at the right place at the right time.

Big play

Naitasiri’s defence was strong keeping Nadi out of their try line.

Tacirua Transport Naitasiri assistant manager Atunaisa Kuruibou said: “The boys played well and we have taken each game at a time but it wasn’t easy. Nadi is such a good team and they gave us a hard game and now we will be focusing on Nadroga.”

Jack’s Nadi assistant coach Cohen Politini said: “I will give the boys an ‘E’ for effort, they did good but now we will give them a rest and focus on the Farebrother –Sullivan challenge.”
