The Nausori school wins the Vodafone Secondary Schools Football Championship Under-19 title and $1000

The school defeated Kamil Muslim College 3 – 2. The side was beaten by Kamil College in pool play 5 – 1 but managed to save the best for last in the final.

Coach Nathan Shivam said he was extremely proud of the boys who played their hearts out for the school.

“This is history for our school. Last year we played in the schools IDC and the Courts IDC and did not win the finals,” Shivan said.

He said their sacrifice hade paid off as there were many challenges but all had been overcome. The team were tied 2-2 at fulltime. In the first few minutes of the extra spell, striker Nikhil Chand nailed the winner for the Nausorischool.

Chand was later acknowledged as the best U19 player of the tournament.

He said he missed the semifinal earlier in the day to attend his elder sister’s wedding.

Kamil College won themselves $400 and a trophy. Results: Semifinals U 19: Kamil College 3 Penang High 0, Saraswati College 3 Balata 0; U 17: Nukuloa College 1 Nadi Muslim 0; U15: AD Patel 2 Vashist Muni 1 while Natabua High won the title beating Gurunanak College 1 – 0; Open girls: AD Patel 4 – 0 Seaqaqa. Other winners: U19: Fair Play, VunimoliIslamia College; Golden Boot award – Setareki Hughes ( Saraswati College) and VilikesaTabua (Kamil College); Best Player U 19 – Nikhil Chand (Saraswati College), U17, SulianoToganikoro (Nukuloa College), U15, Tyrone Chambers ( Natabua High School).

Girls Open Division Best Player: Luisa Tamani (AD Patel).
