Nand Sets Race Record

Satend Nand is the new star on the local car racing scene after he set a new national record.

This was achieved during the Digicel Fiji Car Club Rally in Pacific Harbour yesterday.

Nand set the new AWL Wheel Drive record of 11.30 seconds, delivering the most exciting highlight of the day. Raveen Nath went on to win the event with Lawrence Ah Sam placing second and Tauz Khan rounded up the top three.

Fiji Car Club president Raizal Haniff hailed the meet a success with good weather and a strong turnout.

“It was a very successful event,”Hanniff said.

“And there was a huge crowd turnout so it’s very encouraging to see more and more people taking an interest in the competition and the sport of car racing as a whole. Satend was the clear standout driver of the day and he’s an emerging talent. He did very well and unfortunately had a few problems with his car which prevented him from winning but he is definitely on a roll and will only get better with time.

“We had three female drivers compete today who did very well and we’re always looking to expand on female participation so we’re opening the door for free participation of female drivers for the next three events. We want to end the year with three events so we’re working on having three more events and we’re looking for sponsors right now. Overall, the year has been a success so far and this latest race has been a welcome addition to that.”
