The Fiji Primary Schools Kaji Rugby Association is teaming up with teachers from around the country to help run the 2014 Rewa Galaxy Kaji Rugby tournament at the ANZ Stadium, Suva.

Association president Joji Seruiratu commended the teachers for helping run the tournament .

“In our executive committee, there are only a few of us and all these districts are focussing on their teams,” he said.

“We are mobilising more teachers who are coming from the outer islands to join so that we can run the show together and hopefully it will be a successful tournament.”

The teachers’ involvement will make a difference, especially when the competition will be held at four venues, the ANZ Stadium, Bidesi and Buckhurst Park and the Suva Grammar School grounds.

“We are glad it has finally started. We have been putting in a lot of efforts and we are happy that the teams from the North and outer islands are here and putting on such a good performance.”

The tournament is not only aiding in the development of the sport at grassroots level but also serves as an educational experience, said Seruiratu.

“For me it’s not only rugby, when these kids come from the outer islands to play rugby, from the highlands or interior, to come to Suva, it’s an eye opener to them and in itself that’s education.

“We are running this rugby tournament for the development of rugby and also as an educational purpose because most of these children have not been to the capital city.”

With the remaining two days of competition, Seruiratu is calling on members of the public for support by watching the matches.

“The tournament is a lot tougher this year,” he said.
