Miss Fiji Fashion Week, Anne Young was taken by surprise after she was awarded the winner of the first ever 2014 Vodafone Hibiscus Festival sarong competition at Albert Park in Suva on Monday night.

The competition featured the 17 Hibiscus queens in their first public judging.

The sarongs won by each contestant were distinct in their own colours, designs and creativity capturing the theme of the festival which is Climate Change.

The 21 year old said she was glad for her win.

“I never really thought I’d win because my sarong was very simple, the other girls had more colour and creativity,” Miss Young said.

Supported by Golden Ocean Limited, Miss Young said her red sarong symbolises the energy and passion of the Fijian people.

“The red colour for my sarong also captures the Chinese culture and my Chinese ancestry” she said

The Kadavu lass acknowledged her sarong designer, Epeli Tuibeqa.

“I would like to thank him for his hard work and the effort he has put into making my outfit,” she said.
