Colo West made an impressive start in the Telecom B Division competition at Garvey Park in Tavua on Tuesday.

The side featured after a lapse of three years and defeated Colo North 20-5.

However, Colo North players fought hard until the final whistle. They were rewarded with their lone try in the second-half.

Fiji Rugby Union development officer West JoeliTubu said Colo West players showed good skills.

‘There are some good players and could do even better if they are provided with the right guidance,” Tubu said.

Colo West played in the B Division in 2011 while Colo North last featured in 2010.

“Both teams have featured after a couple of years and but the amount of skills and enthusiasm they brought with them shows the potential rugby players in the interiors of Fiji have.

“The match was physical but was a clean and well played match.

He said more coaching clinics needed to be conducted in the interiors of VitiLevu to help coaches and players.

Colo West is in Pool B with Colo North and Ra. In Pool A, the Ba rugby side hopes to secure a spot in the major union.

They defeated Malolo 20-15 at Churchill Park in Lautoka on Monday.

B Division pools: Pool A: Ba, Malolo, Beqa and Yasawa – Churchill Park.

Pool B: Colo North, Colo West and Ra – Garvey Park.

Pool C: Rewa, Naitasiri Bulls, Serua and Kadavu – RatuCakobau Park

Pool D: Cakaudrove and Bua (home and away basis at Ganilau Park, Nabouwalu, Subrail Park.
