The Fiji Under-18 7s team yesterday won the bronze medal in the 2014 Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China, yesterday.

Fiji defeated Kenya in their second meeting 12-0 to win bronze while France won the gold medal beating Argentina 45-22 in the final.

The Sale Sorovaki-coached side made a good start in the first-half which allowed AlipateQaraniqio to force his way through the Kenya defence line and score their first try under the post with St John’s winger WaiseaDaroko successful with the conversion.

Fiji scored a converted try to lead 7-0 at half time. RatuKadavulevu School playmaker Filipe Qoro had the final say scoring Fiji’s last try as he ran through the Kenya defence and scored his try for the win.

Fiji earlier lost to Kenya 12-17 in the pool matches and lost out in the gold medal playoff after losing to France in the first semi final 12-34 on Tuesday night.

Swimming

MeliMalani finished first in his 50 metres butterfly event. He clocked a time of 26.02 seconds but failed to qualify for the semifinals. Malani will compete in the 50m breaststroke event today.

Hockey

The Fiji women’s hockey team lost 2-8 to South Africa on Tuesday night. The Tai Smith-coached side played against Japan at 10pm last night when this edition went to press.

Athletics

KeasiNaidroka and Kayla Yee will compete in their 100m heats today.
